Read the first three track titles as one line, the way they’d light up a phone: Beginning. B You. C US. The album opens like a text message — it begins, be you, see us — and the invitation sets the terms for everything after. Summer 69 is DJ Lexi’s golden-hour record: thirteen tracks, forty-five minutes, no wasted motion, the whole thing addressed to somebody specific. House music is often built for a crowd; this one is built like a conversation.

The season is the refrain. “Endless Summer,” “Freaky Summer,” “Cool Summer” — three titles carry the album’s name inside them, and “Heat Wave” and “Sunny” extend the weather until five of the thirteen tracks are, in one way or another, about the temperature. But the pacing is smarter than the theme. Twice, the record exhales: “Found You,” at two minutes the shortest track here, sits fifth like a held breath after the opening conversation, and “Lost in Tulum” — the album’s only place-name, a postcard from melodic house’s beach of record — arrives mid-record as the second interlude. Between those two pauses, the full-length tracks do the long, smooth work that is DJ Lexi’s lane in this catalog: deep and melodic house that trusts melody over muscle, sunset music that never hurries the sun.

The back half changes tense. The titles stop describing the season and start describing being in it — “Heat Wave,” “Love Affair,” “Here,” “Sunny” — presence replacing forecast. And then the closer resolves the whole record in two words: “Dance Floor.” After twelve tracks of summer, the final title is the room where summer gets spent. The text message from track one gets its answer: see us — here.

In the catalog’s chronology, the placement completes a picture. Summer 69 was released June 6, 2025 — the same day as Deep Afro House (After Hours) and Irie Vibes — and read together, the three records are one day in three panels. After Hours is the night, greeting you at the door in half a dozen languages. Irie Vibes is the morning after, cooling down to a walking pace. Summer 69 is the panel between them: the golden hour before the night begins, when everything is still warm and nothing has been decided yet. Same day, same catalog, three different lights.

Context: Melodic house has spent a decade perfecting exactly this hour of the day. Lane 8 built a movement on seasonal, diary-like records that treat the music as a letter to the listener; Nora En Pure made the sunset set a signature, all melody and open air; Ben Böhmer writes melodic house with the patience of a songwriter, letting tracks breathe at album length. It’s the sound of Tulum’s beach clubs and a thousand golden-hour terraces — house music for the moment the light goes amber. Summer 69 works the independent end of that lineage and earns its place in the conversation: a whole album sequenced like the best hour of the day, texting you first.

Verdict: The golden-hour record — thirteen tracks that open like a text message and close on the dance floor, the sunset panel of the catalog’s June 6 triptych. 4/5
